We think that the interiors of a restaurant are roughly as important as the food and drinks. The spaces and their visual style are what set the mood and tone at a restaurant. Dining out is a complete experience, and it’s rare for a place to have a nice vibe without focusing on décor.

Here are our favourite restaurant (lounges, bars, cafes included) Mumbai burbs that make us whip out our phones for some Instagram lovin’!

Pali Village Café, Bandra

Situated on a buzzing, noisy road is Bandra’s most chic oasis of calm. Pali Village Café is the perfect spot for you and a bottle of wine. Their rustic interiors, bold furniture, and vintage flooring give the place enough style to be featured in a Woody Allen movie. It’s known for hosting Bollywood stars on their quiet nights as well as the flavour and technique of their fresh European food.

Quick tip: Watermelon and Feta Salad and the Roasted Pumpkin and Jalapeno Risotto are excellent.

Arth, Khar

This restaurant is the perfect mix of majesty and elegance. With huge dangling chandeliers, and thrones for chairs, the interiors at Arth spell luxury. The restaurant is designed by Gauri Khan, and the theme of the restaurant is gasless cooking, which helps it stand out from the rest of the Indian restaurants in the city. All the food is prepared authentically, just how your grandma would do it, back in the day! They use traditional and natural methods of cooking such as sigris, sandpits, angeethis and smokers. The presentation of their food is as good as the decor of the place. It’s the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion, or on a hot date.

Quick Tip: Do not miss their Smoked Mutton Chops and Angoori Rabdi.

Smoke House Deli, Pali Hill

A quirky Bandra aunty’s house with European food is something we’ve always wanted. The white walls with detailed sketches of a Catholic home are warm and intimate. The furniture and setting is elegant, making it ideal for any sort of good meal. They have healthy options on the menu, like Beetroot Carpaccio with Citrus Segments. It’s a reliable, quiet breakfast option as well.

Quick tip:  The House Special Tenderloin Steak or Bangers and Mash are consistently delicious.

Hakkasan, Bandra

When you walk into this Cantonese restaurant, be prepared to feel regal. The dimly lit ambience whispers class. Hakkasan is a proper, fine dine restaurant which is both modern and classic. It is divided into two areas: one that’s quiet, subtle and sophisticated, whereas the other side is more vibrant and peppy for the younger diner.

Quick tip: Brunch is the best way to try a whole lot of their excellent menu.

The place has large study seats and sofas, and the perfect lighting to enjoy a games night with your pals. To making things better, it has a great selection of alcohol as well. Win-win right?
