Mumbai monsoons bring out the romantic in us, with the city’s pace punctuated by drops of water from darkened grey skies. (See? It’s happening already!) If you’re single, don’t worry: the rains are exactly when you should take your new special friend out to dinner and drinks. To be your wingman (or woman), we’ve made a list of our top 10 places to take someone on a date this monsoon.

The Pantry, Fort
Go for a lazy breakfast
Just a sliver of sunshine with the occasional drizzle makes The Pantry’s big windows and minimal interiors ideal for cozying up. A hearty and simple menu with fresh ingredients wins you brownie points, especially if you order the Flourless Chocolate Cake. Light shades of wood under subtle baked dishes and cakes make for a perfect day date under cloudy skies.
Quick tip: Sandwiches, salads, and mains are all safe bets with their consistency and organic ingredients.

Gallops, Mahalaxmi
Visit on a cloudy day
Entwining vines outside the building complement the tall interior ceiling and banquet curtains. If there’s a more charming space in Mumbai to woo someone, we don’t know of it. Their menu of classics includes Continental and Indian staples along with drinks that don’t burn a hole in your pocket has been tested by time. The view of the racecourse and the serenity it offers on a rainy day are unparalleled.
Quick tip: The Indian is where our heart lies at this classic Mumbai dining spot with truly elegant ambience.

Corniche – At the Waterfront, Bandra
A space for relaxed afternoons
A great casual sundown spot with a view to match, their Mediterranean interiors are a mixture of turquoise and accented wood with a base of white walls. A gentle breeze is usually found blowing across the space. Their eclectic food menu ranges from Italian to Mexican to Mediterranean and even assorted Asian. Starters and appetizers can be paired with a long selection of in-house special cocktails.
Quick tip: We prefer the Asian menu from the variety of food in a casual seaside setting.

Bungalow 9, Bandra
A place date goals are made of
This restaurant occupies an actual Bandra bungalow, making it among the prettiest date spots in the city. Comfy couches with dim yellow lights surrounding the bungalow create a relaxing environment. If it’s raining outside you’ll appreciate each well-made bite even more. Their Thai Curry is considered fantastic, and the indoors bar is pretty underrated.
Quick tip: Order anything, it’ll taste better in an actual Bandra bungalow!

The Daily, Bandra
Try their cocktails and a gig
White brick walls contrasted with black campsite tables compose a super chill vibe. The outside section has a semi-exposed wall that gives the outdoor feels, but is sheltered from the rain for an evening date with drinks and food. Their Signature Cocktails offer originality and zest in each glass, such as the Moulin Rouge (vodka, basil, cinnamon, passion fruit, apple infused tea) or the Royal Flush (tequila, pear, star anise, apple juice).
Quick tip: A variety of quality cocktails and regular gigs keep regulars coming back.

Asilo, dusk. Image:

Asilo – The St. Regis Mumbai, Lower Parel
For Brunch or a sundowner
Few places can match its view of the city and widespread seating for privacy and comfort. Located at the top of the St. Regis Hotel, the all-white seating and tables with a faint glow of dim lighting makes it a classy space with a sensational view. With a roof to protect from the rain, Asilo’s refined menu consisting of tapas, flatbreads, and grills makes it high on our date list.
Quick tip: This view is about as high as it gets to watch Mumbai’s varied landscapes.

Dome, Churchgate
Our favourite Marine Drive view
For years it served as the ideal rooftop bar on the city’s most iconic road. With a view of the Queen’s Necklace, Dome’s atmosphere caters perfectly to young lovers during a rainy night. There’s more than all-white seating and tables, as this atmosphere is a class apart. Fantastic sushi and other finger food is paired with an extensive wine collection.
Quick tip: Order cocktails and ogle at the Queen’s Necklace.

Shiro, Worli
When you need an ambience
Dominated by a tall Buddha statue and a menu of great sushi, this place screams calm. There’s an elegance to the creamy, Asian décor, with a long wine list and perfect dim-sums. Their music ranges from retro to commercial without getting loud. Shiro is the definition of a lounge. Being entirely indoors, you’re guarded from the rain in a cozy fortress from the wet and slushy outsides.
Quick tip: Keep calm and eat sushi by the Buddha.

Breeze Lounge, Powai
See the city like never before
A surreal environment with a lightwood floor and funky blue lights greets you with their rooftop view. The perfect setup for wining and dining, this lounge is open through the monsoon breeze, covered from the torrential Mumbai rain. Get the fantastic finger food, tapas, a variety of rolls and Mediterranean and Mexican appetizers.
Quick tip: Breathe in a bit of Powai, Mumbai’s budget-friendly Europe imitation.
