Its summer time and we all know that this heat can bring out the worst in the best of us. Hot and humid, Mumbai is known to be particularly cruel at this time of the year. Perspiring foreheads and sweat-soaked t-shirts are a common sight during these blistering days and any kind of cool is welcomed with much enthusiasm!

Most of us associate food with a comfort that takes away from a stressful day. Heat usually intensifies stress levels and makes an annoying day even worse. So, to help make your summer more bearable, we’ve decided to give you a list of foods you can turn to!

  • Cucumber

Cucumber has several nutritional properties, but one of them in that it has high water content, making it an extremely hydrating vegetable. Not only is it low in calories, but it helps to flush out toxins, giving you healthier skin too. So slice it up with sprinkle of black salt, blend it together with a soda or use it in light sandwiches and this cooling veggie can be your summer go-to!

  •  Buttermilk

Not only does yoghurt have a high protein content, but when you make a delicious glass of buttermilk for yourself, it helps bring your body temperature lower. It’s a great drink to churn out in order to hydrate and maintain your body temperature on a hot summer afternoon. It’s said to help induce luxurious naps after a heavy meal too!

  • Watermelon

Nothing beats the heat like a huge cold wedge of watermelon! High in water content, with Vitamin A and Vitamin C in abundance, this super fruit is your recipe for a cool summer. Whether you crumble some feta and drizzle it with olive oil, or juice it up and have it just like that, ensure to make this part of your summer dietary plan.

  • Bottle Guard or Lauki

Head to your nearest veggie guy and load up on this little-known hydrator. Not many know that this vegetable helps to lower body temperature and hydrates the entire system. It also helps in digestion and is great to have during the summer. Simply made with cumin seeds, garlic and curry leaves, this is one of the many recipes one can use for this delicious veggie!

Other than the ones mentioned above, you can always sip on some coconut water or just munch of lots of citrus fruits. Another hack which sounds disgusting but is a life changer is a shot of onion juice first thing in the morning.
