When it’s 2AM in the night and you’re back from a night out or a late night at work, what’s the first thing that you do? If you’re like me, you’re probably rummaging through the fridge looking for a bite to eat.

But, have you ever wondered what popular chefs eat in the night? I definitely did and this is why I contacted some of the best chefs in Mumbai. Here are their picks for their favourite late night eats:

Chef Pooja Dhingra

What does Mumbai’s favourite pastry chef look forward to when she’s feeling peckish? This is what she has to say about late night munching, “I’m usually in bed by 11:00pm. But, on the rare night that I’m out with friends, we usually end up at Dangsz, my brother’s restaurant on Carter Road for the Chicken Shawarma. If I happen to be in South Bombay, then Trattoria at the Taj President in Cuffe Parade is always a safe bet.”

Her Pick:

He adds, “I always go back to the smell of freshly cooked khichdi as it is the ultimate comfort food. Simple yet delicious, I always add a nice dollop of ghee to it as my guilty indulgence. Add to that a freshly roasted papad and some home-made pickle and your late night meal is good to go. Khichdi can be made in several ways, making it my favorite go-to food!”

I’ve tried a lot of places late in the night and I’ve also heard a lot of people saying ‘the food there is not as good as it used to be’. When you’re hungry, does that really matter? I love going there, see all the people eating on their cars, the guys making their breads fresh and you can see how everything is happening. I love the experience and the atmosphere there.”
