Our Favourite #MFCafeInteriors | Town to Bandra
Now that we’ve explored some of our favourite restaurant interiors in the suburbs, it’s time to look at restaurants and cafes that please one’s eye in South Bombay!
Any place that serves up a wood-fired Pizza is already attractive. What makes Gustoso unfairly fantastic is the vibe. You’re spoilt for choice about where to sit: a private dining room with a gorgeous mural, a delightful courtyard, or a dining room with large posters reflecting Italian culture. Every step in here feels like a blend of luxurious calm and comfort.
Quick tip: Try their Margherita Pizza or the super cheesy Parmesan Cheese Wheel Flambé Pasta! The Pasta bowl is made of cheese.
Going out with friends and can’t decide what to eat? Flea Bazaar cafe is your answer. This cafe has 14 food stalls with different cuisines, all under one roof. The interiors will make you feel like you are amidst an actual bazaar. You can sit on the built-up steps inside (just like we did back in college) and enjoy a great meal, or just enjoy a drink or two at the expansive bar. All in all, its chilled-out vibe makes it the perfect place to go Sunday drunch-ing with your besties!
Quick tip: You cannot miss on the the Lukhnowee Tunday kebabs. They literally melt in your mouth!
Café Zoe, Lower Parel
Known for their quiet, hearty breakfasts and delicious European food, Café Zoe is a skylit café with simple, comfortable seating. The interiors here are trendsetters in the context of our city, with pictures of the mill framed on its brick walls. Fuss free and bright in appearance, a lot of attention to detail is paid in their kitchens.
Quick tip: Order Lamb Pappardelle, the meat is cooked for 8 hours and served with tangy, handmade Linguini.
Bayview Cafe, Colaba
Situated in an old building in Colaba, the view from this cafe is nothing but spectacular. It has an open terrace that overlooks the Arabian Sea and the Gateway of India. If you’re a sucker for sunsets (like me), then Bayview should be a must go on your bucket list. Unfortunately, they don’t serve alcohol in the outside section, but don’t worry, the breathtaking view compensates for that.
Quick tip: Their delicious croquettes with a cup of piping hot tea is the perfect combination for a winter evening.
Havana Café & Bar, Colaba
The minute you enter this spacious bar, you’ll be love struck by the sky blue ceiling, the wall paintings and the Cuban murals and facades. They have quirky quotes, rustic frames with pictures of Cuba, and imported alcohol to make authentic cocktails. Their funky playlist and the dim lighting elevate the whole ambience of the place. It’s just the perfect place to go dancing with your friends!
Quick tip: Try their Fried Chicken Nugget Cubano and make sure you try the finest Mojito in the city.
If you’re looking for a romantic place for a date night, we’ve found it for you! With huge glass windows, that overlook the beautiful Mahalaxmi race course, and creepers all around their antique wooden furniture, the restaurant reflects pure elegance. As soon as you enter, you will be transported back in time. With dim lighting, a huge lawn, and fairy lights hanging off of huge tree branches, the colonial vibe at this hidden gem, will have you swept away.
Quick tip: Try their Dori Kebabs. They are tender, juicy and held together with the help of a thin ‘dori’ (thread).
A rustic café in heritage Kala Ghoda is your answer for all things understated. The Pantry has charming interiors in pastel shades, almost making one feel part of a calmer rural life. The old-school windows at the café allow natural light to enter just enough past the detailed curtains. This quaint café is warm and great to have a conversation with someone at any time.
Quick tip: Try their Flourless Chocolate Cake or some non-acidic Cold Brew Coffee.
Terttulia feels more like a cosy vacation cottage than a restaurant. The place is well lit by the sun and has a really relaxed bistro vibe. Melodic ambient music and atmospheric lighting make it perfect for a slightly glamourous date night. Although it’s amusing to think of Shivaji Park as town, it works for us because there are no rickshaws in this lovely lane.
Quick tip: Order Melon Sangria, Portobello Olive Feta and their underrated Cheesecakes.
Verbena– Brewpub and Sky Garden, Lower Parel
This lush green brewpub is spread out on a huge rooftop at Kamala Mills. As the name suggests, the restaurant is garden themed. The greenery and pretty lights, gives it a very refreshing and chilled out vibe. It has spacious indoors and outdoor seating and live screening. The music enhances the whole setup. They also have their own microbrewery inside, with some lip smacking house brews to pair with their delicious food menu.
Quick tip: Verbena always has really great offers going on. Make sure you call and find out, before you pay a visit!
The Sassy Spoon, Nariman Point
Vibrant, colourful restaurants have a way of making one effortlessly happy. The Sassy Spoon in Nariman Point has sophisticated yet cheerful interiors, with long chandeliers hanging from high ceilings. The pink and white chairs with floral prints and rustic walls filled with frames give the restaurant a classy yet young vibe! Visit the restaurant to feel charmed by its classic, consistent fare.
Quick tip: Ranch Style Steak with Queso and Salad and their Lemon Beurre Spaghetti for a perfect meal.
