Our Time At Abu Dhabi Food Festival | MF Travels
The very kind people of Abu Dhabi invited us to binge at their annual food festival. We had previously heard about it being a glorious carnival of colours, sounds, and parties for your tastebuds. This time, the festival was held from the 7th till the 23rd of December, remarkably bigger and better than any year it was held before.
Spread over 17 days, covering 3 weekends, the Abu Dhabi Food Festival was the centre of our trip to the UAE. We were promised it would be a food lover’s dream, spanning multiple cuisines and chefs from the region. Running across Abu Dhabi city, Al Ain and Al Dhafra, the festival covered 15 feature events like Truckers Carnival, the Street Food Market, the Big Piknik, Beach Feast, ‘Delicious Cinema’, the Truckers Exit and the ever-popular Street Feast in both Abu Dhabi and Al Ain as well as a Truckers Park in Al Dhafra.
In the duration of our time in Abu Dhabi, we were able to attend 3 of the events at the Abu Dhabi Food Festival.
This event was what you would call a perfect mixture of a Food Truck Festival and a Fun Fair. Held in the Marina Mall Parking Lot, the Truckers Carnival was set up like a typical 1960s travelling fair. A variety of food trucks had been parked for us to choose from. Kids and adults alike had so many activities to experience, trying their luck at typical games at a fun-fair. The food trucks were also a part of the games, as any purchase from them would unlock free tries at the skill games.
40 Mule by Festember
Festember is an arts and entertainment festival that takes place in Abu Dhabi’s Umm Al Emarat Park. Created as a platform for showcasing local and regional entrepreneurs and emerging brands & products, Festember is the leading platform for new ideas, businesses and concepts. This edgy and modern pop-up dining concept and culinary experience came with an aim to change the culinary scene in Abu Dhabi.
Bringing together street art and street food, this was our favourite event of the three that we attended. There were over 40 food trucks, carts and pop-ups lined up, serving us authentic street specialities from the UAE. We had a lot of fun trying out the new and experimental flavours here, especially the wild Cheetos Sushi! Accompanying the street food were some crazy street dance workshops and dance battles, hip-hop and funk artists dropping beats, happening in the midst of the festival.
We wished we could attend the entirety of the vast festival in Abu Dhabi. Our top-notch food experience has us making plans for next year’s food festival already!
