Having visited the restaurant on a working afternoon, my companions and I were only able to indulge in the first ‘P’ of Plate and Pint. The delightful café and bar is run by the chirpy and chatty Monaz Irani, who continues to run the over a decade old Delifresh, started by her mother.

A cheerful and bright venue, on entering Plate and Pint you are immediately drawn to the large mirrored walls and chess board like tiles. It gives you the vibe of a laid back, casual spot where you could pop in for a coffee, meal or drink.

The menu here gives you variety, from all day breakfasts, pancakes, pastas, pizzas, burgers and even sizzlers; you name it, they probably have it. We sampled their appetizers, starting with the Jalapeno Cheddar Cheese Poppers, the Zucchini Wrapped Cottage Cheese and the Batter Fried Calamari Rings. The poppers were gooey and cheesy when they arrived, however, they lacked the kick of the jalapeno that we were looking forward to. Zucchini and paneer may not seem like an obvious combination, but the zucchini added a nice bite to the well-seasoned and soft cottage cheese. We loved the calamari, the batter being light yet well spiced; crispy from the outside enveloping perfectly cooked calamari, making this our favourite appetizer.

Moving on to the pizza, we couldn’t decide which to order so we went in for a half and half: the Al Funghi and the Pepperoni. The pizza had the perfect base, neither too thin nor too thick. The toppings were generous and tasted delicious. We also ordered the Tenderloin Burger which had a juicy, well-seasoned patty topped with tomato, lettuce and caramelized onions . We do wish that there was more ranch sauce though because the bread felt a little bit dry.

The Nutella and S’mores Mousse cake was a dessert lover’s dream. It was loaded with hazelnuts and beautifully moist with rich, creamy chocolate. If you’re unsure of what to order, take a walk to the dessert counter and pick your poison.

In a nutshell, Plate and Pint seems to be place run with a lot of love, the focus being on the customer engagement, with the efficient, friendly service and the lovely Monaz recommending her favorite picks from the restaurant. This is the perfect spot for a post office drink or to catch up with friends in the middle of the day. Sizeable portions at a reasonable price, there is no reason for this not to become a local hang-out.
