Inside Santé Spa Cuisine, BKC | All The Deets
If you ask me, I am not a healthy eater… like not even one bit! Give me all the cheese and butter in the world and I’ll be the happiest person. But, if somebody says there’s a place that offers delicious healthy food, I am game. And, that’s what happened when I dined at Santé Spa Cuisine.
The restaurant is located in a quaint corner of Bandra Kurla Complex. Don’t fret as it’s not hard to find. It was a gloomy day (courtesy: the rains!) but thankfully, we got the brightest table at the restaurant. To our surprise, the place was quite crowded for a Friday afternoon.
As far as the décor is concerned, Santé Spa Cuisine nails it with the casual yet zen vibe. Think a minimalistic design, elements of greenery, neem wood plates and cutlery, banana leaf straws and corrugated paper lamps. Their menu is extensive and offers various options for vegetarians, vegans and for those who are on a gluten-free diet. We were served water in copper glasses; so I was sold on their ‘Honestly Healthy’ concept from the get go!
Name a healthy place that doesn’t have smoothie bowls in their menu, we’ll wait. That’s exactly how we started off our meal at Santé Spa Cuisine. We ordered their Chocolate Granola and Matcha Pineapple Colada smoothie bowls and both of them were winners!
While Matcha Pineapple Colada was highly refreshing because of the matcha, pineapple and coconut cream; the Chocolate Granola bowl offered the perfect blend of delicious flavours like peanut butter, pomegranate seeds and roasted flakes. Trust us, you can’t leave the place without trying these.
While we were waiting for the rest of our order, we decided to sip on their Pink Lemonade and Dark Chocolate milkshakes. Both the drinks didn’t disappoint.
What makes the Pink Lemonade unique is the pink colour that comes from the presence of beetroot. If you love dark chocolate then you will really enjoy the Dark Chocolate Milkshake. This one caters to all your chocolate needs but let us warn you, it’s got a really thick texture.
Next, we tried a favourite on their menu – Beetroot and Spinach Hummus. They say there’s no such thing as love at first sight but that’s what happened when this appetiser arrived on the table. The bonus was that it tasted even better. The pink and green hummus was served with multigrain khakhra chips. However, we did feel that a few more chips would have been welcome!
We were then transported to the Orient with their dim sum, we tried the Carbon Dim Sum and the Crunchy Chlorophyll Dim Sum. Made with activated charcoal tapioca, the former oozed with flavour and literally melted in my mouth. The latter won our affections though thanks to the crunchy blend of broccoli, pak choy, baby spinach and basil, encased in tapioca.
Next, we tried the Chilled Avocado Soup, an unlikely mix of ingredients that made us fall in love with green peas, cucumber, mint, tahini and lemon. You can’t go to a healthy place and not try their salads. So, we ordered their The Buddha Bowl and Vietnamese Salad Rolls. But, both the salads lacked flavour and didn’t leave us impressed.
Moving on, we tried their Farm Fresh Pizza that looked colourful and tasted even better. Served on a ragi base, it was topped with olives, jalapenos, sundried tomatoes and lots of other vegetables. We also liked their Asian Heritage Purple Riso that was served with crunchy vegetables and needless to say, was purple in colour.
By now, we were full to the brim but who can say no to desserts? Don’t we all have a separate stomach for that? This is why we ordered their Salted Caramel Mud Cake, Virgin Coconut Oil Toffees and the Black Wasabi Ice-Cream.
The dessert that I am definitely going back to Santé Spa Cuisine for is the mud cake. Made with whole wheat flour, pink Himalayan salt and jaggery caramel, this is exactly what sweet dreams are made of. And, if the pungent flavour of wasabi doesn’t bother you then you’re definitely going to enjoy the wasabi ice-cream. Personally, I wasn’t a fan. We could have done without the chewy oil toffees but they sure looked pretty.
One thing that I should applaud Santé Spa Cuisine is their food presentation – straight out of the MasterChef kitchen. All in all, I quite enjoyed my healthy outing at Santé Spa Cuisine. If you work around BKC and healthy food is your jam, then you should definitely give this place a try.
