A Weekend Escape At Vivanta President, Mumbai | MF Staycation

By Misbaah Mansuri July 31, 2018

It’s often acknowledged that a staycation is a great way to save on travel. After all it’s like getting away from it all, without spending money on flights, which is the best part of it! I recently had a weekend escape at Vivanta President (formerly the Taj President) which has satiated my desire to get away, for now at least.

The chill life

Gooey sinful cookies and the perfectly decadent hot chocolate greeted me in my Deluxe Allure Suite which was spacious, bright and offered an expansive view of South Mumbai. The dessert feasting was followed by taking a dip in the phenomenal pool and a soothing siesta.

After some gratifying sleep, I took time to focus on myself as I spent over an hour at the property’s well-equipped fitness area. A two-hour long spa session at Jiva Spa brought me back to my blissful natural state of being, swapping stress and tension for a return to self. Add to this extravagance, the lip-smacking food dished out by the hotel elevated my experience to one that I almost felt guilty having so close to home!

Feasting

For dinner, I chose to sample the delicacies at Konkan Café. Sitting in the verandah designed artistically with rosewood, I feasted on full-bodied curries made richer with fragrant coconut. I was blown away by the nuanced flavours of the Tawyache Bombil- the pan-grilled, crumbed Bombay duck, Dalimb Batate- tangy potato patty topped with pomegranate seed and Manglorean styled fish curry with unpolished rice. For dessert, while you’d enjoy the Elaneer Payasam with tender coconut and jaggery, nothing beats sinking your teeth in the delicious Hot Jalebi with Kulfi.

Lunching at Thai Pavilion was like taking a journey to Thailand. Here I witnessed traditional sunken seating and scrap wood collages intricately carved with Thai motifs. The Yum Ma Muang- raw mango salad with water chestnuts, Pia Nueng Manao- steamed John Dory with coriander, chilly, peanut in tangy sauce and Tub Tim Grob- diced water chestnut with coconut milk were all so mouth-watering that the tastes are imprinted in my palate.

Overall experience

Vivanta President ticks all the right gastronomic boxes. After all, Taj group’s Chef Ananda Solomon had travelled extensively to get every bit of it spot-on. The Thai Pavilion which is to ring in 25 years is credited to be the country’s first Thai restaurant. While it remains Vivanta President’s most successful restaurant, Konkan is its soul.

My staycation at Vivanta President was just one indulgent decision after another. Will I recline on the great white expansive queen bed or go for bubble bath in my sumptuous bathtub? Should I go down to for a tipple at Wink or order a bottle of wine to my room? But for a change, being indecisive didn’t feel like the worst thing.

A hotel feature worth-noting here is that the property is pet-friendly and should you need a pet menu, the staff is at hand to attend your every need. From bearing in mind your favourite coffee to curating little surprises to see you smile, its efforts and details like these that elevate this property from just another hotel into something more memorable.
