A Royal Stay-Cay At Four Seasons Hotel Mumbai | MF Staycation
In 2008, the 202-room Four Seasons Mumbai became the first luxury hotel of its size to launch in the city’s south in about 20 years. While the choice of the location at that time wasn’t an obvious site for the hotel, the glittering glass-structure which was the Canadian chain’s first hotel in India has now completed over a decade infusing the city with a new dynamic.
After a crazy work-week, I checked in here to learn more about the reputation that precedes the name. I was told that room categories range from the Superior Room to the Presidential Suite and I was offered the Four Seasons Executive Suite with its green and beige colour schemes, panelled walls, mahogany and maple furnishings with rich silk and mohair accessories.
I had a plush 947 sq. space all by myself which featured a sitting area, an armchair, divan, writing desk, in-room safe, coffee/tea maker, deep-soaking bath-tub and a private bar. The signature Four Seasons silken bathrobes, pillow menu, honey and vanilla scented toiletries (a deviation from the chain’s usual L’Occitane products) were also provided. Over sinful macaroons, I soaked in the aura of this luxury.
For meal options, the property offerings comprise Café Prato, San:Qi and the open-air pool deck. My first meal was lunch at Café Prato which offers international dishes with a Mediterranean twist. I found the lofty, sun-filled dining room perfect for a breakfast, casual lunch/dinner or even a business meeting. The menu here has recently been revamped with some local additions like the Chai Pakoda and Mumbai Masala Sandwich, among others. Knowing I was in good hands, I left my order to Chef Anupam Gulati, the man behind this reinvention to send in his best bets.
I started off with the classic Caesar Salad and the Salad Prato which certainly made it to my list of the ‘best salads in the city’. While I did approach the Mumbai Masala Sandwich with some trepidation, the spot-on local flavours took me by both delight and surprise. The tasty aloo masala packed between slices of bread lined with tongue-tickling chutney made it a sumptuous snack. My favourite dish from the meal however, was the Wild Mushroom Risotto with truffle essence which is exactly the style of food Café Prato is known for best.
Back in my room, Chef Shehrezad Kapadia sent me some delicious Tiramisu to top off my meal. The cream was fresh, the sponge was soaked in just the right amount of coffee and the balance of the dish was perfect. Apart from the food, of all that Four Seasons Mumbai had to offer, the spa is what I’d pick as my favourite part which uses the luxurious Ila range of products for its treatments. My spa treatment here was the White Pearl Facial which used micronized Mother-of-Pearl, Bisabolol, Chamomile, Vitamin B3 and Vitamin C. It wasn’t surprising that my face was glowing for days! Post a relaxing spa treatment, I opted to spend time at the open-air pool deck noshing on some fresh fruits and mind-blowing bhajiyas- it is the monsoon after all!
During my time at the Four Seasons Mumbai, I noticed the staff making a conversation with almost every guest. They would babysit the kids so that parents could eat peacefully and keep in mind every guest’s likes and dislikes, my own included. If house-keeping notices that the guest loves reading they’ll place a bookmark in their room or even some sweet treats. And during the course of my stay here, I discovered that this army of smiling staff make the property the reason why guests keep walking through its doors over and over again.
The hotel offers a chat function where you can directly message the concierge in case of any assistance while the pet-friendly policy of the property is another added bonus. I must acknowledge that with all staggering personalization and thoughtful touches, there is an incredible natural high that comes from being surrounded by the great spirit of the hotel. From candle and rose-petal cocooned bath set-ups to celestial private meal-experiences, a sort of beauty overdose flooded through me. No wonder, this “Four Seasons junkie” has already set her sights on her next FS experience.
