The first month of the year has brought the city a generous chunk of new openings, peppered all over. 145 expands to the burbs, Worli gets a giant nightclub with promising bites, and a hotel in Andheri gets two themed bars. Read on!
Kala Ghoda’s immensely popular all-day Indian-fusion café & bar is opening another outlet in Khar, a couple of lanes away from Mini Punjab. The menu will include some new dishes like the Mac n Cheese Hot Dog, Pork Vindaloo Bao and a Cotton Candy Tower. We’re mostly curious about whether it will house a pool table.

Amanzi, Hill Road
The owners of Versova’s 14 Sauce Story are opening up a contemporary European sky deck and poolside bar in Bandra. The menu will serve grills and bakes as well as wood fire oven pizzas. Drinks served here include fresh fruit cocktails, tiki drinks, and molecular mixology techniques.

Shizusan, Lower Parel
This restaurant aims to be a one-stop destination for all your South-East Asian cravings. Shizushan will offer street food specials like ramen, curries and baos, including dishes from Vietnam, Korea, Malaysia, and the Philippines. The bar will include an extensive selection of sake, soju, Japanese whisky and Asian cocktails.

Desserts of the World, Kemps Corner
Engineer-turned-restaurateur Nishek Jain wants to shine a spotlight on lesser-known desserts from across the world. He also wants to prepare them eggless, in a fully Jain-style. The yet-to-open outlet will offer global beverages like Turkish coffee, Chinese and Japanese tea, and locally-made alcohol.

This new multi-cuisine restaurant and bar opened on the 18th of January. Drama will host gigs on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday nights. The menu will feature dishes like Prawn Taco Salad, Lobster Bruschetta, Goan Prawn Curry with rice, Tres Leches, and Churros.

The new European Resto-Bar is a 10,000 square feet establishment in place of Club Royalty. The food by Chefs Kshama and Gaurav use cooking techniques you’ve only heard of while watching food TV. The classic cocktails menu is refreshing. Drop serves as a restaurant from Sunday to Thursday and transforms into a party-centric space on Friday and Saturday nights.

Khar gets a new South-East Asian bistro, along the same road as Café Mangii and Jai Jawan. LMNOPQ offers a variety of fusion Asian dishes like edamame truffle dumplings, crab and avocado roll, black bean tofu bowl, kimchi fried rice and desserts like caramel tart and nutella and peanut pie. They also have a wine selection, alongside regular iced teas and sodas.

The regal 7,000 square feet space is designed to look like the abode of Dutch dancer and spy, Mata Hari. You can party in the foyer, chamber, gallery, or parlour. The discreet VIP lounge is concealed by a mock bookshelf, barely visible unless you know what you’re looking for – a welcoming back room with a smoking area, chesterfield couches and a private bar. The Asian menu has been put together by Nikhil Merchant, with an emphasis on Sushi and finger food, all served in an easy-to-eat style. The menu also features items like Avocado on Toast and Spicy Salmon Ceviche.

Pi Pizzeria, Khar
First-time restaurateurs Akhil Thakkar and Shaamil Amin have come together to serve ten-inch pizza pies like Americana Hot (pepperoni and jalapeño) and Pollo Arrosto (chicken, roasted pepper, pesto and onion) with premium ingredients. The menu also includes appetisers and desserts.

Kanchan and Sannath Ahuja are the mother-son partners behind Sindhful. The 12-seater dine-in outlet has evolved from Kanchan’s simple home kitchen setup. They are serving an expanded menu with new dishes like Macaroni Aloo, Bhee ji Tikki, Dahi Vada, and Seyal Bhindi.

Delhi restaurateur Priyank Sukhija’s multi-cuisine bar and restaurant launched in Worli on January 20th. This place will serve signature dishes like Whisky Infused Dal Makhani, Madras Curry Chicken Risotto, Indian Khow Suey and desserts like Mawa Cake Cream Toast and Smuggled Cigars (crisp moong dal halwa cigars with pistachio rabri).

Verbena, Lower Parel
The still-to-open 10,000 square foot rooftop brewpub from the owners of Smaaash, Verbena will offer a versatile menu of Mediterranean, oriental and dishes cooked on griddles. The terrace garden lets you enjoy a view of the midtown part of the city. It will also serve as a gig venue.
