Meet The New Menus of May

By Mumbai Foodie May 12, 2017
Lots of new 1441 Pizzeria outlets and lots more happiness!

We don’t know if this is the hottest May of recent times, but it sure feels like it. In between of juggling all that heat, these are the old places we’d visit for their new twists on the menu!

Indigo, Colaba
Easily one of Mumbai’s most iconic restaurants, the new summer menu at Indigo is a playful refresh button. Start with Puree of caramelized carrots, a cheerful bowl of warm orange soup with a savoury, light carrot cake and a sliver of crispness. Mains include a Beetroot Faggatoni, which holds gorgonzola in its gentle purple shell atop a base of parmesan fondue sprinkled with hazelnut butter and Shiraz-braised Jodhpuri Goat Shanks with dill pilaf, caramel figs, and pomegranate gastrique. Mount Makalu is the summer cocktail we’d order every time.

Café Zoe, Lower Parel
The spacious, skylit cafe has an all new coffee & desserts menu. You can now pour out an Affogato, eat dreamy layers of the Chocolate Cremeux, gorge on Red Velvet Cookie & Cake or Homestyle Bread Pudding made of white chocolate supported by Raspberry Sorbet and Caramel. The delicate texture found on the Panna Cotta w/ Pomegranate Consomme is delightful with a punchy fruit flavour. Expect the crisped rice texture at the base of the Crunchy Chocolate Bar w/ Caramel & Sea Salt. If you’re looking for a safe, classic dessert, we’d recommend ordering the Molten Chocolate Tart.

Reise All Day Bar & Kitchen, Chakala
Until the 31st of May, this travel-inspired space is hosting a seafood festival. The menu lists fish and crustaceans alike across soup, starter, fry, main course, and biryani categories. Our eyes are popping for Seafood Combination Soup, starters that include 6 types of fish served in 5 sauces, rarely available Kane Fry, and mains of 6 fish served in a choice of Malvani Masala, Andhra Style, Punjabi Style, or Curry. Seafood and Prawn Biryani are also available. See the entire menu here.

JamJar Diner, Versova

BBQ Pulled Pork Hot Dog

BBQ Pulled Pork Hot Dog

The summer special menu at our favourite skylit spot in Andheri features Avocado Toast w/ guacamole & pico de gallo and Jacket Potato Mac & Cheese w/ mushrooms, sour cream and chives (and bacon, if you’d like some!). Hot dogs like Crispy Chicken and BBQ Pulled Pork are also on the menu. Sip on summer coolers like Pina Colada Ice Cream Soda & Apple Pie Ice Cream Soda, and end your meal with freshly churned ice creams like Chai-Biscuit & Basil-Pineapple.

1441 Pizzeria, Fort & Andheri Lokhandwala
Tired of eating the same kinds of cheese on your pizza? Until 31st May, both outlets of this pizzeria will present a ‘Say Cheese’ Festival. On offer is a choice from classic pizza cheese Mozzarella, to soft and flaky Greek Feta, Fromage Blanc, delicate Burrata and Stracciatella as well as Camembert. Our favourite was the Burrata Pizza for its blend of white and pesto sauces, topped with a mix of dreamy Burrata and mozzarella as well as red paprika and cherry tomatoes.

Sassy Spoon, Bandra & Nariman Point

Faux at both Sassy Spoon outlets is a unique barley-based cooler.

Two menus are available at both outlets. The first is May specials centered around mango, our favourite summer fruit. On offer are Mango & Basil Gazpacho, Raw Mango & Cumin Steamed Rawas with Curried Orzo, and Crispy Pork Belly glazed with chilli caramel. Desserts on offer include Mango Tart with Mango Sorbet.

The second menu here is called Fit Mix, a choice of drinks by in-house mixologist Pranav Mody. These juices, coolers, and smoothies include Demi Monde (carrot, apple and ginger juice), Velvet Teddy (apricot, raspberry, with spearmint fizz), and Mangosteen-ade and Faux- a unique barley-based cooler!

Put together with ingredients that offer health benefits, you can count on honey instead of sugar, organic produce, and barley water, which lowers cholesterol and can help ease digestion.

TGI Fridays, Lower Parel & Ghatkopar
The global casual dining spot has a new menu with an eye on healthy eating. Ingredients like broccoli, salmon, walnuts and yogurt find prominence on it. Dishes on offer include Fruits & Nuts Super Salad, Vegetarian Tex Mex Chili, Wasabi Miso Glazed Chicken, Salmon with Cucumber Yogurt Sauce, and Pomegranate Honey Mustard Salmon. There’s dessert too, in the form of a hot Fruit Crumble with 3 kinds of berries and juicy peaches under a scoop of frozen vanilla yogurt.

Terttulia, Dadar Shivaji Park
With the idea of eating fresh fruits and vegetables, Terttulia has recommendations from their menu. The Caesar and TT’s Citrus Salad make for a fresh and light lunch. Order drinks like Healthy Carrot Glow or Red Beetroot Concoction containing orange, watermelon and Japanese ginger.

Cocktail menus

Hoppipola, 4 outlets
With Indian heat comes cocktails in Indian flavours. We’re very curious about the Liquid Kachumbar (white rum, coriander, green chillies, and Gondhoarj lime from Bengal). Sweet flavours include Tipsy Thandai or the Irish Lassi, while Aam-Tam should cater to any mango cravings. Also available is a Jamun Martini (gin, jamun, and a sprinkle of lime).

Woodside Inn, Oshiwara, Andheri West

Fresh Black Grape Mandarin Cooler is one of the promising new summer cocktails at Woodside Inn, Oshiwara.

Fresh Black Grape Mandarin Cooler is one of the promising new summer cocktails at Woodside Inn, Oshiwara.

The summer cocktail menu here includes Fresh Black Grape & Mandarin Cooler with the underrated Stolichnaya vodka. An interesting and sophisticated Fresh Mango & Cucumber Sangria contrasts with cool and simple Basil & Mint limeade slushies blended with shite rum, fresh basil, mint, demerara sugar, dash of lemon juice & crushed ice.
