Living Like A Goddess At RAAS Devigarh |MF Travels
The recent spectacular wedding of Britain’s Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at Windsor Castle was so beautiful, I wanted to get a taste of royalty as well. So when my castle getaway plan panned out, I was more than thrilled. I experienced palatial splendour with RAAS Devigarh and just thinking about my experience makes me want to go back already!
The property was an hour’s drive from Udaipur off National Highway 8. It’s a 10-minute walk into the village of Delwara. A dreamscape in white offset with silver, gold and vivid splashes of peacock green and saffron yellow, the interiors are a refreshing change from the traditional Rajasthani fort-palaces. As I walked through this head-turning backdrop, the mandatory aarti and rose-petal welcome followed.
The best part is that check-in at Devigarh is a breeze. There’s no need for sitting down at counters and filling out huge forms. I was welcomed with the drink of my choice and then led to my suite. I was told that there are 39 suites through the fort. My suite was the Devigarh Suite- the finest of all the room categories. I was also made aware that Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan had stayed here for a month when his movie Eklavya was shot at the palace.
To welcome me, there was a hand-written welcome note by the General Manager, some cheese, wine and lots of treats. My captivating golden bedroom extended onto a private sun deck and jacuzzi where I could literally wash all my worries away. It included a private black marble pool and dining area for a secluded meal, had I chosen to do indulge in one.
I’ve travelled extensively across reams of luxury hotels and I have to say that this suite remains the most extravagant one that I’ve ever stayed at.
Here, I also had some of the best food of my life. Whether you’re after moreish pad Thai, creamy pasta or an authentic thali meal, you name it and they’ll have it sent to you just how you like it! The main dining room occupies a lavish white pavilion. Whether it was private candlelight dining at the historic mirrored Sheesh Mahal or dinner under the stars warmed by a roaring fire, I am still smitten by my dreamy dining experiences here. Candles, petals and wonderful aromas transported me through the reverie as I gorged on some stellar Indian food.
As the sun dips below the horizon at Devigarh, there are only two places to be: curled up near the heated pool with a drink or in the relaxing surrounds of the Ila Spa. It is also worth taking the palace tour with a member of the staff to unveil the castle’s regal history.
It feels so good to see that the staff at Devigarh go beyond the call of their duty to ensure you’re treated like a goddess. And that is what makes this hotel so extraordinary, a place I can imagine couples getting engaged and celebrating special occasions. I can only say that it’s a place where lovers bask, dreamers are taken on a wild ride and where you’re left feeling like you’re living your best life.
