A Six-Star Stay At Sri Panwa Phuket | MF Travels
Some places in the world are so unequivocally brilliant, so indisputably incredible, that it would take an extraordinary effort to not love them. I discovered one such destination during my recent trip to Phuket, the Sri Panwa Phuket, a hotel which has regularly been voted as one of the top five resorts in Thailand and acclaimed as one of the most luxurious hotels in the world.
Sprawling across the jungle-filled Cape Panwa peninsula, Sri Panwa boasts commanding views of Phuket’s south-eastern tip. One look and I was convinced that some destinations can indeed beat postcard-induced fantasies. Thanks to a refreshing wet-towel and great iced tea, I was rejuvenated from check-in.
When I was shown around, I realized that scattered throughout 40 acres of lush, tropical surroundings, the villas here are the perfect marriage of luxurious minimalist interior décor and the beauty of nature. One can choose from luxurious one or two bedroom pool villas and a selection of larger, distinctive residential homes.
The resort’s latest additions include an enclave of 20 new Pool Suites and 10 Penthouses. Each unit features its own infinity swimming pool and offers all the modern comforts of luxury living. While my penthouse itself was remarkable with sleek interiors, clean lines, natural tones, tactile fabrics and beautiful bathrooms, the infinity swimming pool was the highlight. This wrapped seamlessly around the glass-enclosed bedroom and offered gorgeous views of the sunset. And I’m pleased to add that the hotel offers a complimentary minibar to satiate all your late night cravings.
Each morning, I would wake up, slide open the glass doors and dive into the pool for a short swim before heading to a delicious gourmet breakfast. The enclave also features two new dining venues, Baba Chino and Baba Hot Box and an Olympic size forest waterfall pool enveloped within a perfectly landscaped water garden. Without a grain of doubt, I can say that from delectable Thai food to lavish power-breakfast, here I was indulging in the best food of my life.
The stunning beach pool here is perfect for sunbathing, lounging or an impromptu cocktail. Secluded within the rainforest high above the Andaman Sea overlooking Phuket’s Archipelago, is the resort’s spa which draws inspiration from traditional Sino-Portuguese design, bringing the sights and sounds of the sea indoors. It was my first experience of being administered a spa treatment in a treatment room equipped with a waterfall! Add to this an intuitive therapist and great treatment techniques, and you’ve got a clear winner.
Things to do
For those who love yachting, Sri Panwa provides access to year round opportunities for boating. If you’re in the mood to explore, be aware that some of the most beautiful islands in the Phuket archipelago are within easy reach: Racha, Maiton, Phi Phi, Coral, Lone and others, are all 15-40 minutes away by boat. You can follow the north coast to explore the stunning beauty of Phang Nga Bay or skip across the sea for a visit to the mighty Phi Phi Islands. For divers, the staff will be happy to arrange a trip with a private diving instructor to guide you through the awe inspiring beauty of the Phuket underwater world.
Sri Panwa is an intimate immersion into a theatrical and primordial dreamscape. Look around the resort and you feel the magnetic pull of the landscape. They say celebrities go to the best. And rightly so, by the end of my stay I knew why the likes of Chef Gordon Ramsay, H.R.H. King Jigme of Bhutan, The Royal Family of Thailand, Rihanna, and Snoop Lion, among others choose to keep walking through the resort’s doors. With incredible food, the luxury amidst nature, a brilliant spa and thoughtful staff, this one is a rock-star of a resort.
